Written to the tune of Vampire Weekend – Walcott

So I am totally in loooover. Love. Love. Love!

The object of my affections can be found below:

Lovely.

Mate, I am swoon doggin all over the joint for this bed set. The doona cover says “The Good Life” underneath…which coincidentally is the name of one band that I enjoy more than most others.

There are other super cute offerings too!

I’ve been looking for worthwhile bed sheets for so long & thanks to the Frankie blog they have been discovered :)

The brand isLife Modern.

The only downside is that they are preeeeetty pricey, but I’ve been slumming it in my old bed sheets for far too long. And who doesn’t want to snooze with deers? I certainly do.

The only thing is, I like the white one a LOT too. However I’m a bit of a grub, so it would probably get dirty :( Plus white sheets are just impractical in general. SIGH!

Thouuuughts? xo

Prettttttttty @ the burger shop.

I took a photo of this little friend whilst I was waiting for my (Gigantic) vege burger to be prepared for my little tastebuds. A surprising acquaintance.

This be what I was wearing. I don’t claim to be an amazing dresser, so I don’t feel like I’m putting these photos up to try and be “cool” or “hot” or anything, but I think it is maybe good to document these things sometimes & people like pictures!!! ALRIGHT? I felt the need to say that.

Anyway so I wore this to my friends gig (the only band I ever go to see hehe). This navy scoop neck is the same as the red one from the Alice in Wonderland party, but navy obv! I also have it in black. They are wonderous!

$15 each at Myer or 2 for $25. Sweeeeeeet as. You cannot go wrong.

On Friday I spent too much money getting my hair coloured and cut. Result above. You can kinda tell, it’s just darker/shinier with a touccccch of red through it. I like it a bit! However as always I am terrible at manipulating these head fibres & so have still yet to learn the proper way of blowdrying on my own + many other ’should know’ hair skills.

Saturday I had the day off & so recruited my boy friend to go for a shop. He ended up with jeans, I with this little skirt. I mentioned previously that I was bringing scallops back, yeah. And now I have acquired another scallopy skirt! The scallop of the hem follows the white stripe which is about 5 cm in. I think it’s cute! I wore it with black hoodie, black stockings, black tights & black head band he he. I was in a good mood though despite my outward appearance.

That night I also got looked at incredulously by a bouncer when I presented him with my ID. “YOU WERE BORN IN 84?????”. Correct. “You do NOT look like it”. Thanks! It’s the bane of my life! “*STAMPS*”

This is a photo of my friends bands’ first drunken dancing fan. Awwwe bless! Note his cricket hat? Yeah, they kill it.

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned here a little bit of wombat excitement at my work, and here is the little boy who the fuss is over. BLUEY! Awweee. I love him. He has been digging up his pen like it aint no thang. I have only visited him once but plan to rectify this post-haste. Love love loevveeee.

A picture of a peacock that just happened to visit one day & decided not to leave for good measure!

I’m out the door now for dancing, it’s a public holiday though so I hope it’s on!

I’m going to listen to Vampire Weekend in the car and sing a little then hopefully thrash these little chubs that are adorning my waist from too many icecreams/chips/wedges + no exercise for 2 weeks. EEK!

xox

A little night of dancing has quelled my tonsils to a manageable rage. I drank one vodka lime & soda, danced with a few friends / no-one in particular & at the ripe old time of 2am decided I was too old for these hijinks & headed home.

I had a moment whilst waiting in line, some people behind me were talking about the recent Death Cab For Cutie show, I asked them if they saw them 6 years ago with Something for Kate (which I had) to which they replied … “Err, no. I was 12 at the time”. Oh God.

I was occupying space with people 6 years my junior and I decided that it just wasn’t right! Despite being told I look the same age as these kids, I just don’t know if I can really relate to most of them given that somewhat significant gap.

That said though, I do meet some nice people there & not -everyone- has just become of legal drinking age.. but I guess it reminded me why I don’t really head to that bar too much anymore.

Le sigh!

So Yesterday I got my hairs cut at Maurice Meade near me. Colouuuuuured n cut. It now exists as a darker, chocolatey brown colour, with a more defined fringe & a wee bit shorter + much healthier! Hoorahh! The girls were nice & I had a good time. My wallet however, did not.

I think next time I want a colour I’m going to get a palfriend to throw one of those DIY boxes into my hair and see what magic occurs, as shock-horror, I have never done that before!

Last night I also saw my friends band again. Sweettt. I enjoyed some of the other bands, ate a delicious burger which contained a slice of beetroot almost as large as my head & felt cute, so it was a good time.

I took some photos but my camera conveniently died so they will be up soon!

I feel a little void in my heart so Today I’m going to go shopping for clothes and shoes and other things to make me feel pretty & attractive & not lame!

My Mummy & Daddy are also returning to me Tomorrow so the house deserves a bit of a whirlwind tidy up.

Without me you’re just bones & skinnnnnn!

Boost Juice & Omega 3.

September 24, 2008

The other day I was pottering about finding snacks at the local shopping centre I pop in to for lunch, you know one of those huge outer ‘burbs malls that keep cropping up all over the place. I was getting my usual, read: onion bhaji (food of Gods but not amazingly good for you…chickpea flour coated, deep fried onion pieces) & a Boost Juice, I noticed that they had a new ‘Booster’.

I don’t usually get these because I feel weird about eating vitamins that I don’t get to read the label of and that I don’t get to control.

However their latest “Omega 3″ booster, which claims to give you 100% of your daily Omega 3 requirement in the one shot caught my eye. I asked the boy who was working there whether it was vegetable or fish oils? Given that I wouldn’t eat it if it’s fish, I was disappointed when he said it was.

However, I tend to think people don’t really know what they are talking about so I went home and had a look on the internet :P Surprise surprise, it’s a vegan oil!

I’ve written a little about another oil I like, flaxseed, here , but this particular one is called DHA (from Algae).

Time for the info:

“DHA is an omega-3, long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid and it is the primary building block of the human brain tissue and eye.”

Sounds useful so far…

“The human brain is about 60% fat, and DHA is one of the crucial structural fatty acids in both the brain and the retina. Approximately 30% of the structural lipid in the gray matter of the brain is DHA.”

So these are good things!

It also helps normalise blood fats, increases good cholesterol, good for your mental health, brain functioning & it is also good for your skin babies!

So I’m sure you know where I’m going with this!

I am going to get a Boost juice smoothie with this ‘booster’ in it, every day for 2 weeks and report back to you on how I’m feeling about it & whether I notice any improvement in my skin, brain functioning (HA) & blood fats…double ha.

I WONDER WHAT THE FUTURE HOLDS!

xo

Got puppy?

Oh my neglected little piece of internet pie. Holla! Busy times, tired times call for limited update measures but I shall be fixing that up right now!

So it’s been about a week and a lot lot LOT has happened! Perhaps the most eventful week yet?

Nah! Monday was dancing as always and we learned an awesome routine to “Back to Black” which kiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilled my leg muscles like nothing else and resulted in visibly firmer tummy & thighs!!! pretty amazing stuff I was and still am in awe, Tuesday yoga as always (which double killed my legs & caused me to walk limpily for a few days!).

Then Wednesday? MUSIC QUIZZ! Oh how I love thee. Have the bestest fun! We were called the “Brian Quiztown Massacre” TAKE NOTE KAREN;D and we were winning ALL NIGHT LONG until right at the end we got PIPPED AT THE POST. dang.

I love eating garlic bread & wedges there. Health epitome. Free drinks galore & extension of knowledge plus good friends & times. Win-win-win-win.

THURSDEE. I worked then went late night shoppins. Ended up buying a few things from the YSL counter. Had a lovely older lady who helped me out. I originally went to buy eyeshadows but it just wasn’t working for me. alas alack. So I bought thiz:

In shade threeeeeeeee. It’s pretty good, I kinda like the brush feature. However I think the shade she chose maaaaaay be a tiny bit pink for my face. Even though it looked fine in the store, in photos I look a wee over-pink.

I also bought a lippy in ‘Rouge’. Lovely.

FRIDAY I went to little creatures with my girl lover & we ate the best chips in Perth, with vege+tofu skewers YUMZ. The staff were all dressed as pirates for ‘Talk like a pirate day’ it was cute. I then proceeded to get pretty wasted & these annoying guys from Sydney talked to us for a while before we high-tailed it out of there and onwards to Amplifier Bar/Tramps. I saw friends I hadn’t seen for a while, drank vodka lime sodas (my faves!) & danced it up to a variety of indie pop gems.

SATURDAY, feeling a little worse for wear & remembering I had a themed birthday party to go to that night. I dragged my slightly sorry self (alliteration omg) to the shopps & purchased a variety of amazing goods:

* Red lolita heart sunglasses
* 1 x red scoop top & 1 x black scoop top from Myer (LOVEEEEEEE)
* Dior Red lipstick oo la la
* Heart hair clips
* Feather hair clips from SG
* HELIUM BALLOONS

YEP. I came home, devised my outfit, napped a little then begun my transformation from ordinary girl into contemporary ‘Queen of Hearts’, it went a little something like this…

* Equip heart shaped sunnies
* Red Myer scoop top
* Skirt is reconstructed Ladakh (?) dress that my Mother kindly turned into a skirt
* Red sparkly sox – Miss Sop
* Shoes from Novo
* Messy room courtesy of myself

Close-up of sparkly red socks for Rachael! I ruv them :(

OKAY SO AS YOU SAW AT THE TOP OF THE POST. Puppy. My besterfriend Kasey got a little one. Oh God.

She is love? Sunny!

Too much basically..

Chompy chomp of my helium heart balloon!

Any-how!

What else to do with such sunglasses than this?

Clearly. I then ran around and made every boy & girl at the party do this. HOT.

Birthday Alice & I.

A Lolita-Doormouse & I.

Croquet got out of control.

Delicious.

Okay wow. That’s really more camwhoring than anyone needs to see so I’m sorry! But I did say I needed to improve my stalkability rating for this blog…

SUNDAY I slumbered, played with puppies, got LOCKED OUT OF MY HOUSE & had to obtain a couple of male relatives of my friend to climb into my roof and unlock my house. It was pretty intense as it was raining and I thought I was going to be responsible for the death of my friends family! However it all turned out okay.

I then went to see Mezzanine play again because I am a good friend, ate a vege burger & also enjoyed a band called “The Disguise”. Then I flew home & slept.

Today I am sick as dogs, not entirely due to a little partying, but just being run down & working with sicklings as well.

My tonsils are golf balls taking over my throat and my life, it’s really quite attractive.

Plans for the week who knows? If you got this far.. commendation required.

Day off! Glorious! Magnifique!

September 15, 2008

To sleep in is to have the honey of the gods poured into your mind and soul…ahh yes!

I have many small tasks to complete Today & probably none of them will reach that final stage. My weekend has been difficult at best. Training hundreds of mostly teenagers & walking around a big hilly park, drowning in mountains of paperwork & doing speeches. Scary stuff!

I have a huge fruit salad & raspberry yoghurt waiting for me in the fridge when I decide to venture out of the safety of my warm bed. HELL YES!

This brings me to my lesson for you all which I’m sure I talk about pretty frequently:

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT.

On Saturday I ate:

2 x plates of cheese twisties
6 x mini kit kats
1 x bottle of sprite

Just in case you were wondering, there is like ZERO NUTRIENTS HERE. I had no energy the entire day, promptly fell asleep when I returned home & woke up 4 hours later feeling like absolute shit.

I honestly have not felt that bad in a really long time. It was a good reminder that the bowl of porridge, smoothies, fruit, vegies, juices, and water that I usually eat are actually doing me some good and to keep being a good cat!

So Summer is coming! I can feel the fitness growing inside me from all the walking, dancing & yoga that I have been doing & the eating well. However there is a long way to go before I consider myself ‘ready for a swim suit’.

The other day I got my ‘post winter pre summer’ waxing regime started. Pain! But now I am smooth & feel much less like a wildebeast on a daily basis. I highly recommend waxing your underarms. Really!

I know the idea of that evokes fear into the hearts of even the most hardened women, but it’s so so so so so 500% WORTH THE PAIN! Not having to worry about thinking twice when wearing sleeveless tops and dresses for three weeks is amazing. I just take a pain killer before I go & try and chat a little to the beauty therapist to take my mind off it.

So if you’ve never done it, I issue you with the challenge of getting your underarms waxed! Hehe!

In other getting ready for Summer endeavours, I will be dry body brushing (which I’ll do a seperate post about soon), maybe get a mani & pedi? I’ve never got a pedicure before because I think I will feel weird with someone playing with my feet. I feel much less weird getting bikini waxes, which is a bit weird probably! You can look at my nether regions but not my feet thank you very much! (Yes, weird!)

I’m going to get my day started now, so to re-iterate, do my challenge and let me know how you go! ;) If anyone actually goes and does it I will totally send you a present in the mail!

<a href=”http://flickr.com/photos/blackheritage/1664786248/”Charleston!

I dancy danced last night, I am so happy to be doing this! I slept so well last night, & even though half way through I am puffed out to the MAX, the next day I feel great, so I had a good day Today!

Tonight I am going to Yoga, and Tomorrow night too. I am on a real health kick at the moment, after dancing last night I went and bought bananas, a bag of baby spinach. Went home with my friend, drank skin purifying tea & ate a bowl of baby spinach before sleeping blissfully!

I hope I can keep it up! The job is quite full-on & I need my time outs. Oh remember that chocolate bar? Do they still make those?

— Thursday —

Well now it is Thurs & I am going to see a band called “The Matches” tonight, they are pretty good / bad pop-punk fare. I will see how I go! Going to eat terrible-for-you faux chicken as well. Perhaps I will take some photos as my blog has a very low stalkability rating at this moment and I should probably rectify that.

We are getting a wombat at work! I’m excited ;D

Shameful Musical Delights!

September 6, 2008

Many of you who acquaint with me in person, will know a few of my deep dark not-so-secrets! My delight in Australian pop-punk-pop-rock bands, namely on Below Par Records.

I’ve been such a big fan of Kisschasy & Something With Numbers for the longggggest time, say, at least 6 years. Long before “Do Do’s & Whoah’s” came out, so please don’t mistake me with a bandwagon hoppin teenybopper, you can still call me lame though if you want.

So these are 2 bands that I delight in listening to, and thinking about all the past memories from when I was 18 / 19 / 20. I didn’t go & see one of these bands for a while due to an unfortunate incident involving one of them(ooooh!).

However I have put this all in the past & am going to relive my younger days, rocking out to poppity punk bands when they come to town.

So the reason for this post was that I bought the new Something With Numbers Cd Today! On the first day it came out! I haven’t done this in the longest time…

While I was there, I picked up a few other things!:

- SWN ‘Apple of the Eye’ single
- SWN ‘Perfect Distraction’ CD (I was boycotting this, but now I’m over it)
- Vampire Weekend – (Self Titled)
- Brian Jonestown Massacre – Tepid Peppermint Wonderland (FOR $16.99 mind you!!!!)

Little miss karen & my best boy-friend Cory have been drumming this into my head, so I caved. I like anton because he’s not right in the head, and nor am I…this is why I like you, I like you!

WHOGIVESAFUCKABOUTANOXFORDCOMMA

Peter gabriel, too.

Right. Well I didn’t update for a while as my first week of work was taking place and by george is it tiring me out! I ended up going in 6 days in a row so now I get a few days off next week!

I like all the people I work with & am enjoying the job a lot so far, so good!

Yesterday was my lovers birthday & I baked her strawberry babycakes & bestowed the gift of Lush products :~) Tonight is mexican food & Devilles Pad for dancing to 60’s tunes! AWESOME. HOT HOT HOT. I’m sure I will fall to snooze after a little dancing.

OKAY WELL! I’m going to have a bath and try & relax after my week of a thousand interviews. xxxooo

Two Bucks ‘Til Wednesday!

September 2, 2008

Saturday the 30th of August provided the thrifty, the fashionable, the curious & the charitable with a chance to forage through some hand-picked second hand goods, all in the name of a good cause: a cure for cancer!

The pretty ladies who created Two Bucks.. are doing it all for a cause, which makes it all the more amazing!

The girls have had their own personal experiences with cancer and the grief it causes, so they are raising money to help find a cure.

All the money raised goes to The Cancer Research Association. Not only that, the prices are CHEAP AS CHIPS, even cheaper than you would find in some op-shops & the quality of the stuff they sourced is fantastic. Hannah, Sophia, Alicia & Anna have got it going on and they are only going to continue on their quest for curing cancer & providing Perthies with hot clothes!

These are the two bits I picked up!

CUTE CUTE CUTE SKIRT!!! Fits like a glove, $6! However I can only wear it with a few things because it makes my child bearing hips stand out a lot! Which is something I don’t need! I still love this skirt though!

!!! :D :D :D Scarfy! $2!

Close-up of pattern.

Love it, am going to wear it with white singlets & black singlets in summer, also tie to bags.. & just generally use it to cutify whatever I can!

It was a crazy day with girls (and a few boys!) frantically grabbing & trying things on. They sold out in 2 hours!

I’m hanging out for the next sale! I’m glad to have been part of it! They encourage anyone to start up something similar in their own town/city.

Oooh there is also an article in the latest Frankie magazine so check it out!
